Somatic Experiencing
Somatic Experiencing®
A bodywork approach to working with trauma.

Somatic Experiencing is a body-based approach that I use alongside Craniosacral Therapy. It works with the nervous system by tailoring different talking and practical methods to your particular needs. These will help you become more body aware, to notice early signs of stress or activation rather than finding yourself overwhelmed.
When we become overwhelmed, shock can stay held in the body. Often there is not one major traumatic event. Anything that is too much, too soon and too fast can be difficult for the body to cope with if the stress cycle has not been deactivated afterwards.
Initially, we build a safe container within you by looking for health and resources internally in the body and externally in your daily life. This helps you expand your ability to be with reactions and emotions as they happen. After that, we slowly become curious about stress: how does it feel, and how does the body react? By pendulating between ease and activation, we wait for the stress cycle to complete.
Held back for Nicki to decide: "Safely and effectively release trauma, shock and stress disorders" and "reducing the frequency and intensity of symptoms" are treatment claims.
Somatic Experiencing is a bodywork therapy that I use with Craniosacral Therapy to safely and effectively release trauma, shock, and stress disorders… Reducing the frequency and intensity of symptoms experienced creates an ability to recover quicker and manage them better if/when we do experience them.
What a session is like
Typically, you will start by sitting comfortably and be given time to settle into the space. Working with trauma is an extremely individual experience and my aim is to provide a safe environment. There is no need to tell or relive your story again.
We work in a way that gently opens your awareness of your body and the patterns it holds relating to stress, emotion and energy, by tracking sensations, thoughts, feelings, movements and images.
Sessions are complementary and not a substitute for medical or psychological care. If you have a health concern, please speak to your GP. Wellbeing note and crisis support
